Personality: Treadstone without the inconsistencies, Outcome without the Emotional Noise.

Aaron Cross, on the surface, appears to be a regular guy. He jokes, he laughs, he gets angry, sad. This may be due to his mental programming as part of Operation Outcome, programmed to be the best espionage agent in existence. However, it seems deeper than that. Not much is seen of his personal relationships, but he does seem to try and make an effort to be friendly.

This is shown when he meets the Outcome agent in Alaska. He shows a genuine curiosity to why the man is out here, the expedition into the valley seeming to be a punishment for agents who don’t meet the mark. The meeting with the agent in Alaska also shows how quickly Aaron can swap from relaxed to on the job.

The moment he notices something not right with the situation he’s in, he instantly drops all pretences and gets serious. This is helped by the genetic changes given to him by the program. The genetic increase in his intelligence and physical strength allows him to analyse and act on what he sees, hears and notices quickly and seriously.

He takes his job and his missions mostly seriously, especially when it regards his own safety. He knows that to lose his concentration is to lose his life.

That’s what we are. We are the sin-eaters. It is our job to take the moral excrement in this equation and bury it deep inside us so the rest of our cause remains pure. That's the job. We are morally indefensible and totally necessary.

Aaron has conflicts with his emotions quite frequently. There is an example when he’s talking to Eric Byre in a war zone. It’s not clear exactly what is going on, but it’s obvious that they ordered Aaron to do something he didn’t like. It looks like he went through with it, but didn’t like it. He’s shown to be angry with himself, troubled by what he’s done, internally questioning himself, as if he knows what they ordered him to do was wrong.

This seems to be a continuing issue with the agents of Operation Outcome, as they seem to be too emotional, easily distracted from their orders by their emotions, even going as far as falling in love. This seems to be a major bad point for an Outcome agent, NRAG going as far as to pull the agent from the field.

Is that why you put in such an attractive appearance?

During one of his examinations with Dr. Marta Shearing, he asks her what she thinks they do out there. He seems to still be questioning himself, as this is after the confrontation in the war zone, but it could also an example of Aaron falling for Marta.

It may have been a coincidence, it may have been that Dr. Shearing was the only member of the team from Sterisyn Morlanta he remembered, but as the movie progresses, it clearly shows both Aaron and Marta falling for one another. This is shown more by the end of the movie, but Aaron seems to have become smitten with her during the 13 exams with her, having chosen to drive out to her house while looking for more medication before he found out about the shooting at the lab. He shows that he, at least, wants to trust her, and, knowing that NRAG wants to shut Operation Outcome down, that he, in some part, wants to protect her by going after her.

Who tells you that this is okay?!

Aaron’s temper can be pretty explosive, but it seems to take a lot to push him over the edge. A key example is just after he rescues Marta, and he goes off on a rant. It’s not particularly violent or aggressive, and it seems to mainly brought on by the frustration that there is no way he can get his medication, and that Marta seems to know nothing. This, ultimately, shows that he's still human, still prone to emotions.

All in all, despite being a genetically altered human, Aaron is a man, just like any other. Personality-wise, he still hates, loves, feels and suffers like any other man, and no amount of genetic programming will change that.
